It was a recurring theme in my childhood fantasies. I used to close my eyes and there was the Alcazar castle, right there in my fairy tales, with its moat, drawbridge, princes, dragons and fairies. Segovia’s Alcazar is like an enormous ship ploughing through the plains of Castile. This impressive fortress was a favorite residence of the Castilian kings, a symbol of a glorious era of long ago. If you get to visit it one day, don’t forget to climb the tower of Juan II, all one hundred and fifty six steps. When you get to the top you’ll be rewarded with a wonderful panoramic view of the city of Segovia. You’ll feel like the king of the castle, the hero of a medieval tale.
