The Santa María del Parral Monastery, built in the mid 15th century during the reign of Enrique IV, is situated outside Segovia’s city walls on the banks of the Eresma River. It really is a most beautiful monastery, and is a national heritage site. This is one of only two monasteries in Spain run by the order of Saint Jerome, the other being that of Yuste, in Caceres. The Santa Maria del Parral Monastery currently runs a service whereby visitors can live in a monastic environment for a week, and every Sunday it holds a mass complete with Gregorian chants.
