A cyclist is surrounded by press cameras and microphones. It’s all about getting his comments quickly and transmitting them to the public at large. New technologies have increased citizens’ consumption and demand for information. In the times we’re living, with so much information circulating around multiple channels, the journalist’s job is more important than ever. In the early part of the 21st century we have more knowledge at our disposal than ever, but we’re often unable to understand it. That’s where journalists come in, serving as transmitters of increasingly critical, plural, accurate and verified information. A democratic society is one whose citizens are well informed.
