The light of the evening sun played with passers by, casting shadows on the wall in such a way that it was like watching a massive Chinese shadow play. It occurred to me that now, more than ever before, humans are always walking among shadows. Darkness seems to stalk us. We’re surrounded by too many negative influences. We’re indifferent to injustice, passive about hardship, unsupportive of those most in need. We need to react now before it’s too late. In the course of our day to day we apply the values that make us more human. The American author Helen Adams Keller wrote: “Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows”. That’s why it’s so much better to walk in the open country in the sunlight than to gradually turn to stone in a darkened room.
