The two of us had been walking for a while, talking about this and that. That evening we’d managed to go for a walk together at last and we didn’t notice that we had wandered further than we intended, leaving the city behind. I took her hand for a moment to bring us to a gentle halt halfway along the path. “Sorry for the interruption, but we’re missing what’s up ahead of us. Just look how beautiful it is…,” I said to her, noticing her eyes light up as suddenly as if someone had thrown a switch. There, with the cathedral standing watch, we left the small talk behind and walked over to the fence to take in the whole landscape. We spent a good while there talking about interesting stories from the past (and about the present that we had just begun to share). Once again, Segovia’s beauty had served as the perfect backdrop to my life.
